Like the Five of Wands, the Seven of Wands is also a card of challenges. However, this time; the said challenges are not for but against chaos; it is for preserving what has been achieved against the danger of chaos and instability.
Seven of Wands depicts a man standing on top of a plateau, seeming to defend his status against the challengers from below. The man wears a green tunic, and below that unlatching shoes. Furthermore, the plateau he is standing on is divided by a river stream.
The position of the man represents his status and success, while the green tunic corresponds to vitality and abundance of the man. The river beneath him symbolizes the healthy flow between his emotions and mental processes, yet the different shoes represents that he might be on uneven standing or unsure about his position.
Survival can be summed up in three words – never give up. That’s the heart of it really. Just keep trying.-Bear Grylls
The Seven of Wands is the second card in the Suit of Wands that denotes a challenge; and in this card, the challenge is about maintaining what has been achieved. Hence, this card indicates that there might be some people who are challenging the authority and success achieved to replace it and calls on to continuously improve himself to preserve his standing, even if that means confronting others. A person represented by this card would not think twice before rising to defend what he has, and they would be able to present their point in rather non-opposable ways. In the relationship context, this card calls for the necessity of “winning” over the other person against the other contesters. In an established relationship; however, this card indicates over-criticism and harsh defenses against those, but still, implies that the relationship might be one of those which are worth fighting the over this phase. Career-wise, this card indicates a challenge coming from colleagues, just because of the high performance delivered, with the risk of being taken down and harshly criticized if one cannot keep up providing that. Hence, regardless of the situation; this card advises for raising the guards.
Summing up, the Seven of Wands is a card which shadows forth a time when one is to fight not only to move forward; but also to keep what he has built and achieved so far.
